memory pavilion

An installation created with Constantinos Gallis and Ethan Petersen for the 2023 Frost Music Festival at Stanford University, in response to the theme of Sacred Spaces.

When considering this exhibition’s prompt, we realized that themes of ritual and memory resonated between our shared notions of sanctity. As a place where rhythms of everyday life are performed, the home is the primary stage for these themes.

Memory Pavilion is a collection of built forms constructed from translucent fabric panels and simple domestic artifacts, arranged to create an implied space. The panels capture shadows of trees and people, and move with breeze and touch. The installation frames space but does not enclose it—light and shadow, wind and leaves, and of course, you, may enter and exit freely.

Memory Pavilion is both static and fluid, interior and exterior, familiar and forgotten.
